Boyce & Bean
about us
Boyce Lundstrom was a classic artist, equal parts renegade and genius. In search of glass tiles that would complement the laid back yet sophisticated look of his beachside lifestyle, Boyce was inspired to make his own. The creative environment of Southern California ideally suited his pursuit: here is where traditional craftsmanship met emerging industrial processes and gave birth to new art forms and solutions. With access to these craft and technical resources, Boyce lit upon the idea of blending traditional cast glass techniques with recycled materials and newer pigments, then hand-pouring the molten glass and allowing the bubbles and ripples to remain. These "imperfections" provide the depth and character that reveal Water & Light's hand-made origins, and a surface that reflects light the way sunshine bounces off waves.
Along with his sister Bean (Jill), he opened Boyce & Bean in Oceanside, California, and added new materials: Beach Glass echoes the frosted luminescence characteristic of tumbled, found glass, while Real Metal possesses a burnished coloring and warmth – as if these tiles too had been polished and tumbled by the sea.

A reliance on local inspiration and artistry informs everything Boyce & Bean makes. We have established a reputation for creating beautifully designed, handcrafted products with an emphasis on natural colors and textures. We've moved manufacturing to our partners in Mexico, where our tiles continue to be poured with the same attention to detail and regard for craftsmanship you've come to expect from us. And we have joined the Quarry Collection family in order to bring our brand of casual, progressive cool to a broader audience.
